DARB employs
one full-time employee, responsible for all aspects of the organization,
and several seasonal and/or part-time employees hired for specific
programs, such as Camp DARB, Derry Care, lifeguards, summer pool
manager, adult education instructors. Beginning each spring through
fall, a groundskeeper is hired to take care of 1 community playground,
and Derry Community Pool. As most of you may be aware, DARB is
responsible for maintaining and managing the playground on the
far end of the pool parking lot on 3rd Street. Within the past
few years, we've placed additional money into capital improvements
at the Community Park, including rewiring all of the pavilions,
painting, seeding, fertilizing, and general upkeep. Derry Community
Park is now being maintained by Derry Borough. To rent the community
park, please call 724-694-2030. Our largest project at this time
is the reconstruction to Derry Community Pool, totaling approximately
$500,000, which included shallowing the deep end and installing
tube slides, demolition and rebuilding the special purpose area
of the pool (previously known as the baby pool), allowing for
handicap access. The pool is now heated to approximately 80 degrees
or higher, depending on the air temperature, and permanently
installed water toys are in place for the little ones' enjoyment.
The bathhouse has been remodeled, as well as the concession stand,
bringing the facility completely up to date. Our next large project
will be to replace all playground equipment, but that will not
begin until the pool is paid in full. Also in our long-range
plans is to offer a facility of our own, to enable us to expand
our programs further. Please be patient with us, as this project
will be well over a million dollars, hopefully to come to reality
with grants, community donations, and extreme fund raising events.
It is a project that requires an extreme amount of planning,
purchasing land, hiring a consultant to assure we're getting
what we need.
DARB is extremely proud of our reconstruction project,
finished June 2002, and is diligently raising funds to pay off
remaining debt of the $500,000 project. We seek volunteer adults
to assist us in offering our concession stand during open hours.
IN CONCLUSION
:
DARB would like to take this opportunity to thank the volunteers
that assist us in offering quality programs for children and
adults. The sports programs are always in need of coordinators,
coaches, team parents. Derry Community Pool depends on volunteers
to work our concession stand, avoiding the large amount of money
that would be needed to staff the concession stand. If you are
interested in assisting us with one or more programs, please
feel free to contact us. If you would like to become involved
in our community through DARB, please feel free to e-mail us.
Thank you for being involved in one or more of our programs and
events that we offer for your family's enjoyment.
